Home.
From the wild greenery and dotted waterfalls amongst the Waitakere Ranges to the wide flat expanse of Piha beach exist some of my favourite places to trail run, hike, swim and (try to) surf in the New Zealand North.
I’ve always wanted to photograph here and got the chance to on a recent shoot for Fitbit, using primarily natural light during the golden hour with a little fill where needed.
Standing the edge of this dam is surreal; a huge body of water almost at your fingertips one side, a blanket of native trees cascading down the hills below. Lugging a whole bunch of photo gear about 2km up a trail from the carpark was worth it, as was trying to hold a C stand while shooting in the incoming tide racing the last of the light.
